A tragic incident unfolded in Dunkwa as a six-year-old boy, Sylvester Owusu, is feared to have drowned after falling into the Anikoko River during a torrential downpour on Saturday, May 18.

Sylvester was reportedly on his way home from Zongo Market to Oteng Crescent after running an errand for his grandmother.

While attempting to cross a culvert along the Dunkwa-Aggrey Road, he is believed to have slipped and carried away by the forceful floodwaters.

The heavy rainfall spanning nearly four hours., led to severe flooding in various parts of the municipality, turning the river into a perilous current.

At dawn on Sunday, a large-scale search effort commenced with local volunteers and emergency responders combing the area in hopes of finding the missing child.

However, as of the latest update, there has been no sign of Sylvester.

Authorities urge residents to exercise caution when navigating flood-prone areas, particularly in the aftermath of intense rains. Search operations remain active.
