The Department of Urban Roads in the Ashanti Region has temporarily closed the stretch of the Sofoline Interchange leading to Patasi to carry out urgent maintenance works.
Mr. Francis Kofi Yankey, Acting Resident Engineer for the Sofoline Interchange project, explained that the ramp linking the Sofoline Terminal to the Santasi Roundabout has weakened and requires immediate repairs to avert possible dangers.
He noted that the expansion joint on the stretch shakes noticeably whenever vehicles drive over it, posing a serious risk to road users.
To safeguard lives, the department has shut down the section and begun repair works, which are expected to be completed within 15 days.
Officials say the intervention will not only prevent accidents but also enhance the durability of the road and provide safer passage for both drivers and passengers.
