President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that the Planting for Foods and Job programme is one of the deliberate, well-thought out policies that has made agriculture an attractive profession.

In his speech at the fourth State of the Nation Address before Parliament, he revealed that “we invested resources, expertise and time, and the results have been impressive and rewarding”.

According to him, “agriculture was very much in the doldrums when we came into office, with a growth rate of 2.9%”.

He, however, noted that his Government has worked hard to generate dividends in agriculture for the past three (3) years.

“We are no longer importers of maize. We are reducing our dependence on rice imports, and are now, in effect, net exporters of foodstuffs. Food prices are at their lowest in decades”, he added.

The President also mentioned that the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) module promotes tree crops such as Cashew, Coffee, Coconut, Oil Palm, Mango, Rubber and Shea.
