SONA 2022: Black Stars has brought joy to Ghana – Prez Nana Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has asked parliament to join him congratulates the Black Stars on qualifying for the 2022 World Cup at the expense of Nigeria.

Akufo-Addo, who celebrated his 78th birthday on the same day Ghana qualified, stated he was proud of the four-time African champions.

Delivering the 2022 State of the Nation address in Parliament on Wednesday (30 March), the president said the Black Stars qualification for the World Cup in Qatar has brought so much joy to Ghanaians.

I hope you will forgive me if I begin by asking Members of the House to join me to salute the management, technical and playing teams of the Black Stars, who, against the odds, beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Abuja yesterday. Their qualification for the World Cup in Qatar has brought so much joy to Ghanaians, and we are looking forward to an outstanding performance in Qatar.

An early goal from Thomas Partey was enough to secure Ghana’s place at the 2022 Qatar World Cup as they beat Nigeria on away goals after a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their qualifying play-off.

William Troost-Ekong’s penalty was not enough to stop the Black Stars from recording a famous result on enemy territory.

After failing to qualify for the 2018 edition in Russia, the Black Stars have returned to the global showpiece.

Ghana had previously qualified for three consecutive World Cups between 2006 and 2014.

Ghana’s finest World Cup performance came in 2010 when the squad made it to the quarterfinals.

They will attempt to break that record in November when they travel to Qatar.
