
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has extended his warm congratulations to the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, formerly known as Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost.
The new Pope, elected on May 8, marks a historic milestone as the first American to lead the Catholic Church.
Taking to social media, Bagbin praised Pope Leo XIV’s elevation, expressing hope that under his leadership, the Church would continue to be a beacon of spiritual fulfilment, justice, morality, and human dignity.
“Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost on your elevation to the head of the worldwide Catholic Church,” Bagbin wrote. “As the 267th pontiff, we pray with you daily to continually make the Church a home for spiritual growth and a global moral authority.”
The Speaker also celebrated the Catholic Church’s longstanding tradition of leadership transition, emphasizing its relevance in an ever-evolving world.
He encouraged Catholics worldwide to take pride in the Church’s role as a model for political, professional, and business systems.
