Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, has revealed plans to implement the ’24-hour Economy Policy’ within the Parliamentary Service as part of national efforts to enhance productivity and curb unemployment.
The announcement was made on Thursday, June 26, during the formal presentation of the final policy document by officials from the Office of the President.
The Speaker explained that the initiative was a response to increasing workloads faced by parliamentary staff, particularly after a recent change in the House’s sitting time from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Rt. Hon. Bagbin indicated that under the new policy, staff in critical divisions of parliament would be expected to work extended hours, potentially from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 pm or even 11:00 pm.
He noted that the volume of work in parliament was significant and expressed confidence that the policy would create additional employment opportunities and ease pressure on existing staff.
According to him, the introduction of the ’24-hour Economy Policy’ within Parliament would not only improve institutional efficiency but also contribute to addressing the country’s unemployment challenges.
Presidential Advisor on the ’24-hour Policy’, Goosie Tanoh, who led the delegation to parliament, stated that the national launch of the 24-hour economy policy is scheduled for Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
He described the policy as a game-changing strategy designed to drive continuous economic activity, reduce joblessness, and improve national productivity.
