Steering the Boardroom Ship: Summit Calls on Chairpersons to Drive Accountability and Growth Across Africa

The highly anticipated second edition of the National Boardroom Governance Summit will take place on October 14, 2025, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. Building on the resounding success of the inaugural 2024 event, which drew just under 1,000 C suite executives and quickly became the most celebrated boardroom focused gathering on the continent, this year’s summit is poised to set an even higher standard for governance excellence.

Convened by Professor Douglas Boateng, the 2025 Summit is expected to attract more than 800 CEOs, board chairs, directors, and governance professionals from across Ghana and beyond. With its boardroom centred approach, the event will provide actionable insights on accountability, transparency, and leadership—key ingredients for building resilient organisations and sustainable economies.

Professor Boateng explained that the summit was designed to help leaders convert governance principles into measurable value. “Last year we planted a seed. This year we are nurturing a movement,” he said. “The 2025 Summit continues the journey by giving directors and executives a trusted platform to share practical solutions and raise the standards of accountability across the continent.”

The theme for 2025, “Daring to be Different: The Role of the Chairperson in Effective Boardroom Governance,” signals a deliberate shift from generic discussion to bold, action oriented leadership. Sessions will explore how chairpersons can drive strategic transformation, strengthen board effectiveness, and inspire management teams to embrace innovation while safeguarding stakeholder trust.

The summit’s keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff in the Office of the President, underscoring government’s recognition that strong governance is central to both organisational and national development. His participation follows last year’s inaugural keynote by the Minister for Finance and highlights the summit’s growing stature as a premier platform for dialogue between the public and private sectors.

An impressive line up of industry leaders will join the discussion, including Akosua Apea Osafo, Partner at JLD Legal Consultancy; Professor Kofi Abotsi, Dean of UPSA Law School; Dr. Braimah, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Directors Ghana; Stephane Miezan, President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce; Chief Alhassan Andani, former CEO of Stanbic Bank Ghana and respected economist; and Mrs. Mary Asare Yeboah, President of the Institute of Directors Ghana. Their collective experience will enrich panel sessions on how boards can drive sustainable value creation and long term competitiveness.

To strengthen its continental reach, this year’s summit will also be broadcast in French, enabling francophone Africans to participate fully in the dialogue. This expansion is a key element of Professor Boateng’s agenda to position Ghana as a continental hub for boardroom governance and a catalyst for change across Africa.

The stakes could not be higher. Weak governance exposes organisations to reputational damage, financial losses, regulatory sanctions, and declining investor confidence. Strong governance, by contrast, delivers organisational resilience, economic growth, and sustainable development. By convening more than 800 of the continent’s most influential decision makers under one roof, the Boardroom Governance Summit aims to accelerate the adoption of governance practices that protect value and unlock opportunity.

Registration is now open, and early participation is strongly encouraged for this landmark event in Africa’s governance calendar.
