The Supreme Court has scheduled December 18, 2024, to deliver its judgment on the constitutional challenge to the Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill, filed by Richard Dela Sky.
The case, which has been pending since May 2024, has drawn criticism from supporters of the bill, who accused the Chief Justice of delaying its resolution. However, the Judicial Service clarified that the delay was due to the parties’ failure to submit the required documents to move the case forward.
The Speaker of Parliament and the Attorney General had earlier been granted permission by the court to file their defenses.
During a hearing on Tuesday, November 19 the court allowed the applicant to amend portions of his statement of case, providing the defendants an opportunity to respond. Following this, the court adjourned proceedings and set December 18 for its ruling.
