A suspected motorbike thief has died following a violent encounter with a mob in Awutu Bawjiase, located in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

According to eyewitness accounts, the deceased and an accomplice reportedly hired a commercial motorbike rider, known locally as an “Okada,” from Esikaso in the Eastern Region.

Under the guise of heading to Awutu Bawjiase, the two suspects allegedly attacked the rider with a stick and fled with the motorbike.

The injured rider managed to alert another Okada rider, and together they pursued the suspects. The chase led to one of the alleged thieves being apprehended along the Bawjiase-Okwampa road by a group of local motorbike riders.

Outraged, the group reportedly assaulted the suspect and inflicted severe injuries, including the mutilation of his testicles.

The police arrived on the scene and rushed the victim to the Awutu Bawjiase Polyclinic, where he was pronounced dead shortly after due to the extent of his injuries.

Local authorities, including Assembly Member Isaac Amoaquandoh, confirmed the details of the attack.

The second suspect managed to escape and remains at large.

The Bawjiase District Police Command is currently investigating the alleged theft and the fatal assault.
