Take up issues with Head of EU over LGBTQ sponsorship in Ghana - Ayorkor Botchway told

Editor of the Informer Newspaper, Andy Kankam has urged the representative of Ghana’s President at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take matters up with the Head of the European Union over LGBTQI+ issues in Ghana.

According to him, the EU has disrespected the diplomacy protocols of the country by endorsing and sponsoring an office space of the LGBTQI+ community in Ghana.

Speaking on the special Editors’ Take edition of the Happy Morning Show, Andy told Samuel Eshun: “My problem is the endorsement and sponsorship given by the head of the European Union in this country to the LGBTQI+. They must respect our sovereignty and respect the rules and laws of this country.

For the EU in Ghana, to have posted the LGBTQI+ group in Ghana on their official Facebook timeline and being there during the opening of place is an attack and an upfront to all diplomatic protocols. And that is why I am not surprised that some of their own are not happy. You can’t just make a statement to be speaking on our behalf. I am yet to cite a document that states that the president has caused a treaty or convention to be signed on his behalf which has been ratified by two-thirds of parliament. So they cannot come here and think that they will hide aid and assistance in this right of gay and lesbian groups”.

Following his concerns, Andy noted: “The minister of foreign affairs designate, should take issues with the Head of the European Union because you can’t come into this country on the grounds of immunity and try to misbehave”.

A few weeks ago, the LGBTQI+ Rights Ghana opened an administrative office in Tesano, a suburb of Accra.

The group organized a fundraiser which was attended by several diplomats including the Australian High Commissioner who pledged to support the group.

Meanwhile, the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values has demanded for an immediate closure of the administrative office for homosexuals.

The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has also called on president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo to close down the recently opened LGBTQI office in the country.
