Security Expert Paul Boateng has called on the Ghana Police Service to adopt the community-oriented style of policing to help curb crimes in our communities.

He argued that perpetrators of these heinous crimes live among innocent people in the community and as such involving the community will help rid off criminals in the community.

His call comes on the back of the recent news of a 29-year-old pregnant woman who went missing recently in Takoradi under some bizarre circumstance and has reportedly been found at Axim Bankyim in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.

The security expert lamented that most often police officers fail in effectively interacting with the public and that lessens the public trust in the police. “The public cooperation with the police is not there and this is as a result of the way some police officers interact with the people even when they stop your cars; it is never a good experience”, he told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show.

Paul, proposing the way forward said: “We must re-train the Police officers so they can effectively interact with the public. This will help increase public trust in the police so that perpetrators of crime will easily be reported to the police. The Police must identify crime hotspots through environmental scanning to know where crimes are high so they can help reduce the crime rates in these areas. That will build public trust in the police”.

The Takoradi Divisional Police Command has reportedly found the 29-year-old pregnant woman who went missing on Thursday, September 16, 2021, in the Western Region.

The victim, Josephine Simons, was said to have gone for a morning walk from the Amanoo road to the Paa Grant Roundabout area all in Takoradi as part of her routine exercise. However, she did not return home.

According to husband of the victim, Michael Simons, it was about 11 am on Thursday, September 16, 2021, his mother-in-law received a call from some strange persons demanding ransom before they could release her pregnant daughter.

He further explained that the demand from the suspects prompted them to quickly report the case to the Takoradi police.
