Dr.Irene Stella Agyenim-Boateng, Vice Chairperson, Public Services Commission, has advised women to tell their stories to inspire more women and even men around them.

Speaking at the ‘Thought Leadership Session’ organized by Global Media Alliance to celebrate International Women’s Day, she emphasized the importance of women telling their stories and experiences to inspire others when need be.

According to her, most women are laid back and hesitate to talk, although their stories might be what others need to get to where they want to be.

“As women when you find yourself in a position, I believe that you should actually lift others by telling your story. They need to see and hear you to know that it is possible. Other women need to see and hear you and know that you don’t need to use unorthodox approaches to get to the top” she said.

She explained that to be able to get other women to follow you, they need to see authenticity because they do not want to be connecting with pretentious characters hence, women should be able to tell their stories.

“A lot of the times people know the glory but the story behind the glory they don’t know so for a woman to be able to inspire other women to reach the height they have reached or even go beyond them you need to actually tell your story and experiences”.

“The story should resonate with people because behind every glory is never just the sweet ones it’s not just about the happy moments but it’s about the failures, the faults, the cries and sometimes just wondering whether anybody else in the room will support you so, if you want to inspire you need to be someone who walks the talk and ensure that what you say you do” she added.

She emphasized that women need to find integrity in women where they can be mentors.

“Where a mentor is not just admiring someone from afar but a mentor is where you share your life with others where they can learn from your experience” she stated.

She noted that, it is a whole vast range of how a woman can inspire others such as, through your experiences, through what you do, how you’ve done it and why you do what you do.

“When you have done that, you’re able to get people go along with you and where you’re able to lift them you do that when they’re falling you lift them and tell them I fell also but I was able to get up” she concluded.
