The Minister of Education designate, Haruna Iddrisu has revealed the amount needed to implement the government’s Free Tertiary Tuition policy.

Speaking during his vetting on Monday January 20, 2025, Alhaji Iddrisu mentioned that, government would need approximately 345 million Ghana cedis to begin the program.

“President Mahama and the NDC promised free tuition for students from level 100 who would undertake normal programmes in the various public universities, including private universities”.

Highlighting the stability of the policy, he mentioned that, government intends to mobilize funds with the help of the Ministry of Finance.

According to him, the ministry would refund fees already paid to students.

“We intend to mobilize with the Ministry of Finance some additional financing to cater for the population of student. It will be in the range of 125,00 and we will provide 375 million to support that.
Every student who has paid will be refunded”.

He added, “the beauty of this is that, it’s open even parents who are willing to pay can do so”.
