Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to prioritize the nation’s interests as paramount in the lead-up to Ghana’s upcoming elections.

Speaking at the Wreath Laying Ceremony for her father, the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, held earlier today at the NDC headquarters, she highlighted that her father had always envisioned a sustainable future for Ghana and had left a legacy that embodied this vision as a former president. “The challenge is not so much in winning the election but doing the right thing when you are in government,” she said.

“The errors of the past must be corrected in order to re-establish the confidence of our people in a secure future,” the eldest daughter of the former late president quoted from a famous speech by her father.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings expressed her deep concern over her father’s likely disappointment with the numerous shortcomings, especially in the battle against illegal mining, known locally as galamsey. “My father was an avid environmentalist; he cared so much about the environment, and I stop to think about what my father would have said if he was alive today to see what was happening to our rivers and forests.”

She stressed that a great responsibility lies with Ghanaians, and an even greater one with NDC members, to correct the nation’s wrongs and set Ghana back on the right path. “My father never asked for any images to be put up in his honor; the best way to honor his memory and the memory of all other fallen comrades is to be sure that we keep our moral compass throughout this election and afterwards; to set right the wrongs and put this country back on track.”
