MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

Ade Coker – NDC had no 200 cars for journalists

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ade Coker has rebutted the leaked Kwesi Botchwey report’s claim that the party had 200 cars for distribution to journalists.
A copy of the Professor Botchwey Committee report intercepted by Joy News revealed that only 4 of the 34 members of Presidential Press Corps benefitted from over 200 cars meant for the journalists.
Three members from Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and one member from Radio Gold were the only beneficiaries, Daily Guide reported.
In a discussion on the AM Show on Joy News TV Wednesday, Mr. Ade Coker vociferously denied the publication by Daily Guide that the NDC party had any cars meant to be distributed to journalists.
“Which cars did we buy,” he asked in reply to Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso-West Wuogon.
“Even a member of the committee, Samson Ahi yesterday debunked the claim of any 200 cars to be distributed to journalists being included in the report. And I am not part of the committee, he is part of the committee and he is saying this”, Mr. Coker said
“And the Presidential Press Corps is only made up of 34 members, according to the story so even if the claim were to be true, why would we buy 200 cars and not 34”, he added.
To emphasize his point Mr. Ade Coker stressed that, “I am a party man and I am telling you what I know and that is, the party had no 200 cars for journalists.”
When asked about the Mahindra cars, Mr. Coker replied that those were meant for the constituencies. “Every constituency had one Mahindra,” he stated.
Earlier this week, the media intercepted leaked documents from the report of Prof. Kwesi Botchwey Committee which was set up to investigate why the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost abysmally to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 elections held on December 7.
The leaked documents purported that, part of the reasons for the heavy loss was the non-distribution of the cars meant for journalists of the Presidential Press Corps, a claim Ade Coker has denied.
