On this day 7 October 2001(Exactly 19 years ago today) A Round 16 Ghana FA Cup match between Obuasi Goldfields(now Ashantigold FC) and Bolgatanga Mighty Rocks in Obuasi ended abruptly when the visitors refused to continue play at a time that the homesters were leading 7-0.

Mighty Rocks caused the first hold-up two minutes to the end of the first half when they protested against what they termed “poor officiating” by referee Nana Boamah-Darko of Berekum and assistant referee I. E. Batsa of Sunyani for ignoring a number of off-side infringements.

Goldfields were then up by six goals through Isaac Boakye (3), Nana Arhin Duah , Aminu Musah and Ofosu Amoah.

After several minutes of hold-up, the visitors gave in for the start of the second half and two minutes inside the half, Aminu Musah scored the 7th goal after connecting Isaac Boakye’s cross.

In the 58th minute, Mighty Rocks Benjamin Owusu booted Goldfields Dauda Seidu and the referee red-carded him and this renewed the visitor’s anger, which led to their refusal to continue play
