The Tema Oil Refinery says it will resume full operations by October this year.
Officials at TOR believe the refinery’s return to optimal performance will cut Ghana’s heavy dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
Appearing before the Energy Committee of Parliament, Acting Managing Director Edmund Kombat said TOR is targeting to process up to 60 percent of the country’s crude oil. According to him, this move could save Ghana millions of cedis every month.
TOR halted its operations in 2021 due to a lack of crude oil. But Mr. Kombat assured the committee that management is rolling out strategic measures to revive and sustain operations.
He also disclosed that the refinery has not audited its accounts since 2019. However, he promised to complete the audit by next month and submit TOR’s financial reports to Parliament.
