The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has welcomed the one-year extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) by the United States, describing it as a boost for the country’s jobs and exports.
The extension, signed by US President Donald Trump on February 3, 2026, will safeguard thousands of Ghanaian jobs, particularly in garments, agro-processing, cocoa derivatives, and light manufacturing.
The minister praised Ghanaian exporters for their resilience during a challenging period and urged them to leverage the Accelerated Export Development Programme to boost exports to the US market.
The AGOA extension provides a strategic window for Ghana to consolidate its position in the US market, expand export volumes, and strengthen value chains in sectors reliant on AGOA’s duty-free access.
The Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM) has also welcomed the extension, describing it as a strategic opportunity for Ghana and Africa to strengthen trade and industrialisation efforts.
