A trader in his 30s has been arrested at Kokrobite in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region for allegedly flouting sanitation directives and making a confrontational remark about the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
The incident occurred during the National Sanitation Day cleanup exercise, when all shops were required to remain closed to ensure full community participation.
However, the trader reportedly kept his shop open and continued operating despite repeated warnings. Members of the Ga South task force approached him to enforce the closure, leading to a heated confrontation.
Eyewitnesses told Happy Kaseɛbɔ that the trader allegedly shouted, “Who the hell is the MCE?” a remark that sparked tension at the scene. The task force subsequently arrested him and handed him over to the Kokrobite District Police for further investigation.
Speaking in an interview with Happy Kaseɛbɔ, the Municipal Chief Executive, Moses Kabu Kubi Ocansey, said the arrest should serve as a deterrent to others who disregard directives during the monthly exercise.
He added that other residents and shop owners who violated the directive would be summoned to face the law.
