A tragic accident in Walewale has left nine people dead and over fifteen others critically injured.

The accident involved a sprinter vehicle traveling from Kumasi and a Kia Rhino heading towards Kumasi from Bolgatanga.

Eyewitnesses at the scene indicated that a trailer was parked dangerously near the road, which may have contributed to the collision. They noted that the driver of the sprinter, who was reportedly unable to control the vehicle, swerved into the opposite lane where the Kia Rhino was approaching, leading to the fatal crash.

One eyewitness said emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and confirmed that nine individuals lost their lives on the spot and the fifteen others, all of whom sustained varying degrees of injury, were rushed to the Walewale Municipal Government Hospital for treatment. He revealed that their conditions remain critical, though their identities have not yet been disclosed.

The police are still investigating the incident, but it is suspected that the dangerous parking of the trailer played a significant role in the chain of events. The bodies of the deceased according to the eyewitness have been taken to the Walewale hospital morgue, awaiting identification by family members.

He said police are working to ensure that proper protocols are followed to assist the families of the victims during this difficult time. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance on our highways.
