Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has said that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is traumatized by the labels ascribed to him by special prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations, including cases related to the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), and two other cases on February 12.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin provided an update on Ofori-Atta’s current situation, explaining that the former Minister is undergoing a special medical procedure abroad. Despite the emotional toll caused by the negative labeling surrounding his absence, Ofori-Atta remains determined to overcome the challenges and continue pursuing his goals.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin confirmed that the Chief of Staff had received a letter from Ofori-Atta regarding his absence, acknowledging the his situation with sincerity.

He assured Parliament that Ofori-Atta had left the country with proper permission and will return once his treatment is completed.

He also addressed concerns over potential misconduct, assuring Parliament that if any issues arise, they would be thoroughly investigated. Mr. Afenyo-Markin committed to engaging constructively with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and urged them to exercise patience, allowing Ofori-Atta the necessary time to recover. He expressed confidence that the Minister would return in due course and that any matters requiring attention would be handled appropriately.
