Samuel Frimpong, an editor of the Republic Press insists it is time the government of Ghana puts in place clear guidelines on the funeral arrangements and processes involved in preserving the mortal remains of former Presidents.
To him, a country like Ghana should be well passed resulting to ad hoc measures whenever such scenarios present themselves.
Brother of former President, John Evans Atta Mills is furious that the government has allowed the Atta Mills Institute to tamper with the grave of the former President.
The non-governmental organisation run by Koku Anyidoho, an aide to the late Prof. Atta Mills, says they are rehabilitating the ‘Asomdwe Park’ where the mortal remains of the ‘Asomdwehene’ were buried.
According to brother of the former President, Samuel Atta Mills, the current arrangement goes against customs.
“We should put in place clear guidelines on how to treat our leaders and Presidents, especially on their passing. We didn’t anticipate we will have a President dying in office. We need to pen down how to proceed when such a thing happens. These ad hoc measures should stop and I believe we should learn from lessons from what is happening now,” he stated in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show.
According to him, with such arrangements put in place, Ghana will never see such an embarrassing dispute between an NGO, political party, a memorial heritage and a family of a President after his passing.
