The University of Ghana community turned up in their numbers for the Mensah Sarbah Hall Wellness Check and Lifesaver Drive on Tuesday as part of the Hall Week celebrations, Ascenova 2026, with students, staff and patrons participating in a blood donation exercise and free health screening aimed at promoting healthy living while saving lives.
Organised in partnership with the National Blood Service Ghana, the initiative formed one of the major highlights of Day three of the celebration, encouraging members of the university community to contribute to the national blood bank while taking advantage of essential health services.
Throughout the exercise, participants underwent basic health checks, including blood pressure and other routine screenings, before eligible donors proceeded to donate blood. Health professionals were on hand to guide participants through the process and educate them on the importance of regular health monitoring and voluntary blood donation.
The exercise attracted a steady turnout, with many students and patrons willingly donating blood to support patients who depend on life-saving transfusions in hospitals across the country. Others also took the opportunity to assess their health status and seek medical advice from the professionals present.
Beyond promoting individual well-being, the Wellness Check and Lifesaver Drive reinforced the importance of community service and collective responsibility, demonstrating how simple acts such as donating blood can make a significant difference in saving lives.
The initiative forms part of Mensah Sarbah Hall’s commitment to promoting health awareness and social impact throughout Ascenova 2026 while encouraging students to embrace volunteerism and contribute meaningfully to society beyond the classroom.
