UK Protest: Ghana's High Commissioner gives assurance of citizens' safety

Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Papa Owusu Ankomah has confirmed that the Ghanaian community in the UK has largely escaped the effects of the ongoing protests, with no significant disruptions or incidents reported.

Following a tragic stabbing attack in Southport, northern England, that claimed the lives of three children, protests erupted late last month. What began as anti-immigration marches quickly descended into disorderly and violent gatherings, fueled by a misleading campaign. As a result, the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service has charged approximately 100 individuals in connection with the violent unrest, as announced on Tuesday.

Mr. Ankomah has confirmed that, despite the ongoing unrest, no significant harm has befallen the Ghanaian community in the UK. As a precautionary measure, he advised Ghanaians to exercise caution by staying indoors at night and avoiding areas where protests are anticipated, ensuring their safety and well-being during this time.
