Over 7,000 nurses and midwives say they are owed eight months’ salary arrears and are demanding urgent government action to address the situation.
The aggrieved health workers, under the banner of the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives, staged a protest today, lamenting that despite receiving financial clearance in January 2025, they have not been paid since.
Convenor of the group, Stephen Kwadwo Takyiah, told the media that members are facing unbearable financial stress.
“We are emotionally drained. We’ve been working without pay for eight months, and there’s no sign of relief,” he said.
Protestors described how the delay has left many unable to pay rent, afford transportation, or meet basic needs.
“This is not just unfair, it’s unsustainable. Our commitment to healthcare should be matched with timely compensation,” one nurse remarked.
