Assembly Member for Dawadawa in the Kintampo North Municipal District, Richmond Oppong, has sadly disclosed that they had to look on helplessly as 30 victims of the accident on the kintampo road burn to death.

Speaking on Happy98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben, the Assembly Member said, “around 4am this dawn we heard that a Yutong bus and a 207 vehicle had been involved in a fatal accident. Upon reaching the scene to help, we heard screams from the blazing cars. We wanted to rescue the people in there but couldn’t do so. It was painful. We couldn’t see them but we heard their screams.”

According to him, a passenger in the Yutong bus was able to break a window of the bus and that is how the six people were able to survive. “Because the Yutong bus was bigger, six (6) passengers survived. But the smaller 207 bus was mangled, trapping passengers and making it impossible for them to escape. We looked on as they burnt and could barely take any action”.

The Assembly Member added that, “we saw they were injured and had to rescue them but we couldn’t reach them because of the fire.”

On his authority, the fire service came in time and did their work but nothing could be done. “I’m sure some died before the fire service arrived,” he said.

An accident on the Kintampo-Tamale highway in the Bono East Region claimed the lives of 30 people Monday morning. Victims who were burnt to death and charred beyond recognition included women and children.
