VIDEO: WBO champion Isaac Dogboe arrives home to a rapturous welcome

Isaac Dogboe’s growing popularity and support base came to light once again as hundreds of Ghanaians thronged the Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport to welcome him back home.

The teeming boxing fans who have been wowed by Dogboe’s exploits showered praises on the man who describes himself as ‘the torchbearer of Ghana boxing’.

Dogboe is coming home nearly two months after the first-round victory over Hindori Otake and his loyalty to Ghana has been questioned by some Ghanaians who feel he is gradually switching allegiance to the United Kingdom.

But the buzz and excitement witnessed at the Kotoko International Airport were as if the aforementioned factors exist not.

After acknowledging the cheers and appellations from the crowd, Dogboe spoke to the media and thanked the ‘God of Ogbulenu’, his dad and Ghanaians for their support.

“First of all let’s give thanks to God. He took us to war and gave us victory and we have come back to our people because they are ahead of us, they pray for us and I just want to say thank you and God bless everyone. I also want to give praise to my Uncle, Prophet Wogbulenu, all Ghanaian citizens. We want out there, we saw and conquered, Dogboe said.

Dogboe recently signed a long-term promotional agreement with boxing promotional giants, Top Rank.

Dogboe is scheduled to make his second title defence against a yet-to-be-announced opponent as an undercard of the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Pedraza lightweight world title unification fight on December 8 at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.
