The Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) have announced a temporary load management schedule for the Sunyani area following a breakdown of a power transformer belonging to the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo).

In a statement issued, the two power utilities providers explained that the measure is aimed at managing electricity demand while repair works are carried out and both transformers are restored to full operation.

The load management exercise has been organised into three groups of affected areas.

Group 1 includes Nana Bosoma Market, Newtown, Estate, Baakoniaba, Asufufu, Wawasua, Nanketwa, Municipal, Town Centre, Zinco, Airport, parts of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), St. Mary’s and surrounding communities.

Group 2 comprises Abesim Estate, Tanoso, Yamfo, Susuanso, Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Abesim, Mayfair, Nkwabeng North, Odumase, Pastoral Penkwase, Syn. NMTC and nearby communities.

Group 3 covers Nimpong, Sunyani Technical University (STU), GETFund, Magazine, SUSEC, Dr. Berko, St. James, Glamossay, Nkrankrom, Fiapre, Dumasua, Mantukwa, Ayakomaso, Nsoatre and surrounding areas.

According to the schedule, electricity supply will be rotated among the three groups over a three-day period.

On Day 1 (January 21, 2026), Group 2 will have power from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Group 1 from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Group 3 from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

On Day 2 (January 22, 2026), Group 1 will receive power from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Group 3 from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Group 2 from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

On Day 3 (January 23, 2026), Group 3 will be supplied with electricity from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Group 2 from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Group 1 from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The schedule indicates the periods during which each group will have electricity supply throughout the load management period.

VRA and NEDCo have apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that all necessary efforts are being made to restore normal power supply as quickly as possible.
