The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has stated that it cannot guarantee the release of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results by December 29, 2024, as announced by the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

According to WAEC, the delay is due to the pending release of funds needed to repair broken scanners, complete the scanning of objective test answer sheets, and finalize the processing of results.

The Council has dismissed media reports suggesting that the results would be released by the stated date, emphasizing that the Minister’s claim of an additional GH¢25 million being provided to WAEC for operational purposes and ensuring the release of results by December 29, 2024, is inaccurate.

WAEC’s response comes after Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum told journalists following a visit to WAEC on Tuesday that the 2024 WASSCE results would be released by December 29. He explained that WAEC was in the final stages of marking and working to ensure the results were published on time.

The Minister also emphasized the government’s support in addressing some of WAEC’s financial challenges, allowing the council to focus on accurate marking and ensuring timely results.
