The Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, August 6, describing the victims as “pillars of public service” and “symbols of duty and courage.”
In a statement signed by Chairman Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, the Council paid tribute to the five party and government officials and three Ghana Air Force personnel who died en route to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP).
“Each of these men served with distinction, commitment, and loyalty. In their lives, they epitomized dedication, patriotism, and humility; in death, they will be remembered forever as symbols of duty and courage,” the statement read.
The Council extended condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, and the people of Ghana, urging citizens to rise above political divisions in honour of the fallen.
“We mourn with you. We stand by you. We pray with you. At this moment of national grief, we call on all Ghanaians, regardless of political persuasion, to unite and honour the memory of these heroes with dignity.”
