President John Dramani Mahama, has announced several transformative initiatives aimed at addressing long-standing challenges and boosting the local economy.

Speaking during his thank you tour in the Western Region, President Mahama disclosed plans to replace the current community mining scheme, which he described as highly partisan and ineffective.

The new approach, he said would involve the establishment of artisanal small-scale mining cooperatives, along with the creation of the Ghana Gold Board to regulate the small-scale mining sector.

“We will take bold steps to replace the highly partisan and ineffective community mining scheme and replace it with more effective artisanal small-scale mining cooperatives. We will establish the Ghana Gold Board to regulate the small-scale mining sector”.

Additionally, the president outlined the “Tree for Life” afforestation policy, which aims to convert degraded lands into economic hubs for cocoa plantations and rubber cultivation. This initiative is expected to revamp and expand the cocoa industry in the Western Region.

“We will implement the Tree for Life afforestation policy, which will turn degraded lands into economic hubs for cocoa plantations and rubber cultivation. We will revamp and expand the cocoa industry here in the Western Region,” President Mahama stated.

Prez. Mahama also mentioned plans to support local processing companies such as WAMCO and Plot Enterprises under the 24-hour economy policy.

This initiative he said, is designed to enhance the processing capacity and competitiveness of local businesses in the region.

“We will support processing companies like WAMCO and Plot Enterprises in the Western Region under the 24-hour economy policy,” he added.
