A member of the communications team of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has served notice that the party will swiftly scrap the tax imposed on churches by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
It was amazing how the NPP in opposition termed some taxes nuisance tax only to come into government to introduce new ones into the system he added.
Gabby Asumin, the aspiring Greater Accra Regional Director of Communications made this revelation when he appeared on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show on Accra-based Happy FM hosted by Kwame Afrifa –Menssah.
He gave the assurance that the NDC will make sure the tax imposed on the managers of the church by the NPP’s administration.
This an unfriendly tax imposed on the church adding that this will not happen under any NDC’s administration in the country because of the respect the NDC has for the church.
He said it came as a surprise to him when news came to him that the NPP was organizing a seminar for church leaders at the Action Chapel International in Accra facilitated by the Pricewater House Coopers.
This is the level the NPP can go in search of revenue to support the failing Free Senior Secondary School.
‘I was in a corner somewhere in Accra only to see officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) urging people in the informal sector to register with the authority’ he said.
According to him, this is a subtle attempt to tax people unduly in the country in accordance with the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF’s) decision for the government to widen the tax net.
