The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Religious Leaders, and Traditional Authorities to shift their focus from promoting peace alone to addressing the root causes of electoral challenges in Ghana.

In a presser at the party’s headqauerters, the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Aseidu Nketia emphasized the importance of collective action to ensure that state institutions involved in the 2024 elections conduct their duties with professionalism, fairness, and honesty.

He urged these influential groups to join their voices in advocating for electoral officials, particularly those in the security, judiciary, and the Electoral Commission (EC), to uphold their oaths of office and prioritize the interests of the nation. The party stressed the need for a commitment to securing and protecting the democratic values of Ghana.

“While we appreciate the efforts of such Religious Leaders, Traditional Authorities and Civil Society Organizations, NDC believes that the way to solve a problem is to deal with its causes.
We urge them to add their collective voices to our call for State institutions involved in the conduct of the 2024 elections to approach their duties with professionalism, fairness and honesty,” he said.

Additionally, Aseidu Nketia directed attention to President Nana Akuffo Addo, reminding him of his presidential oaths from 2017 and 2021. The party accused the president of undermining the sovereign will of Ghanaians by expressing a commitment to ensuring an NPP successor during his remaining time in office.

Aseidu Nketia called on President Akuffo Addo to abandon any partisan allegiance and prioritize the peaceful transition of power in accordance with the people’s will.

“We are tired of being victims of peace; everyone should be a beneficiary, not only the oppressors,” he stated. The party expressed concern about potential violence, citing the 2020 election-related killings and pledging to work tirelessly for a peaceful Ghana.

The NDC also highlighted the perceived injustice of expecting the victims to guarantee the peace of the oppressor. The party emphasized its commitment to protecting the interests of the masses and called on all stakeholders to contribute to a fair and peaceful electoral process in 2024.

“We in the NDC will continue to work for a peaceful Ghana and protect the interests of the masses. We will not sit unconcern for a repeat of the 2020 election related killings. Never again! We believe it is unfair to call on us, the victims, to guarantee the peace of the oppressor,” he concluded.
