What a sad waste of young lives – Mahama cries over UEW students fatal accident

Former President John Mahama is saddened by the sudden death of the students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) after a road accident on Sunday, March 13.

Earlier reports indicated that nine students of UEW, who were onboard a Hyundai Universe commercial bus with registration number AK 324-22, lost their lives after the bus crashed into a stationary 40-footer container.

The accident happened at Asuboi, near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi stretch.

The former president upon hearing the news tweeted that “What a sad waste of young lives in the Asuboi accident!!”

He further expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased students.

“My condolences to the families of the dead, and speedy recovery to the injured,” the tweet stated.

John Mahama took the opportunity to ask drivers, especially commercial drivers, to “exercise a little more restraint with the lives of citizens entrusted into their care”.

Meanwhile school authorities of the University of Education, Winneba, have denied claims that nine students, as initially reported, have lost their lives.

Authorities confirmed on 3FM’s Sunrise that only two out of the nine deceased persons are their students but so far 31 out of the 35 students on the bus have been accounted for while the whereabouts of two are unknown.
