MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch

MMTL redirects buses to ease Accra transport crunch Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has reduced some of its intercity bus services to focus on intracity operations in Accra, aiming to ease transport challenges in the capital. This move involves scaling down long-distance routes, such as those to Kumasi and Cape Coast, to allocate more buses to high-demand intracity routes like Adenta, Kasoa, Amasaman, and Nsawam. The decision follows directives from the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to support private transport operators during peak hours. MMTL is currently operating with a limited fleet of 115 buses, down from over 1,000 when it started in 2004, but is working to maximize available resources. This initiative aims to boost MMT’s operations, improve service coverage, and reduce congestion pressures in major urban centers. “We are committed to improving transport services in Accra and ensuring that our buses are deployed where they are most needed,” said an MMTL spokesperson. The public is encouraged to take advantage of the enhanced intracity services, and MMTL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the reduction in intercity services.

Where Are They? Frank Andoh speaks about his biggest challenge and how ‘juju’ affected his AshGold career

Former Ghanaian goalkeeper, Frank Andoh, has revealed one of the biggest challenges he has encountered during his active days as a professional.

The former Ashanti Gold goalkeeper had grey hair which resulted in a lot of people misjudging him to be older than his initial age.

According to him, he was teased by mostly fans especially from the opposing team anytime he was in the goal post as it was a deliberate attempt to distract him.

Speaking in an interview on Happy 98.9FM’s ‘Where Are They?’ program on how he dealt with it, he said,

“My grey hair was one of the biggest challenges in Ghana football. People thought I was older. I had a lot of distractions in the post during games as a result of having grey hair at that young age.

“I remember when I joined Berekum Chelsea from Mighty Jets, the chairman saw me at training and asked if they had signed an old man.

“I didn’t react to it because I knew I wasn’t old”

Frank Andoh also revealed that he had a difficult time with AshGold because of black magic popularly known as ‘juju’.

“It is true that I had a tough time at AshantiGold because I didn’t believe in ‘juju’. I remember someday our supporters came to tell the team that if I don’t engage in it, we will lose the game if I am at post

“So our captain told me and I told them to use another goalkeeper. We played Hearts Of Oak in Obuasi and at half time, we lost 2-0 Then it started raining heavily and the game was called off so the next day, Coach Oti Akenteng told the team that he will use me no matter what the supporters say. We drew 1-1 and I was the only player that got a winning bonus.

Frank Andoh played for the various junior national teams before he retired.
