Ghana’s ambassador to China, H. E. Edward Boateng, has named collective effort as the reason why no Ghanaian in China tested positive for COVID-19 during its peak in China.

He made this revelation during a virtual panel discussion organized by Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC) and broadcasted live on HappyFM, e.tv Ghana, Net2TV, Oman FM and Ash FM. The conference was themed “COVID-19: Dealing with the challenges; a Dialogue with Ghanaians in China.

H. E. Boateng revealed that, together with his officers at Ghana’s mission in China, they kept close contact with all the Ghanaian students and the broader Ghanaian community in China to make sure everyone was following directives and staying safe. He added that in addition to this, there were systems that the Chinese had put in place to help fight the spread.

Ambassador Boateng, however, commended the Ghanaian community saying, “the overall credit should also go to the Ghanaian community themselves. People were disciplined and responsible. They received the messages, absorbed them and did what they were supposed to do”.

According to him, it was a matter of collective effort, and working together is one effective way to combat the virus. “My welfare depends on your actions and your actions determines my well-being. We’re working together and that’s how we can combat this virus”, he advised.

The Ambassador concluded that in terms of the measures, the discipline and clarity of messages was very important and helped immensely. He encouraged enhance community involvement and engagement in Ghana’s effort to fight COVID-19 in Ghana as such engagements were vital in keeping the Ghanaian community in China safe from the coronavirus.
