Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has refuted claims that he discredited the party’s National Council during recent grassroots engagements.
His response follows a statement by NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, urging members to disregard remarks made by Wontumi and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), emphasizing that no individual holds unilateral authority over party processes.
In a statement issued on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Wontumi described the General Secretary’s comments as unfair, asserting that he never mentioned the National Council in his public addresses.
“I touched on the history of our party and how it can position us to win back power in 2028 with Dr. Bawumia,” he clarified.
Drawing parallels with former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s journey to victory in 2000, Wontumi argued that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia needs only a 9% margin to secure a win in 2028.
He emphasized that his views reflect grassroots sentiments and urged party leadership to verify statements before responding publicly.
He also cautioned against misrepresentation in the digital age, warning that “saboteurs can easily use tools such as AI to destroy good people,” and called for unity and strategic focus within the party.
