Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday, May 27, after reportedly falling ill during an interrogation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
His lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed the development to journalists but declined to disclose the name or location of the medical facility.
“I know where he is, but I am not going to disclose the hospital. All I can say is that my client has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment”.
The interrogation, which has yet to be concluded, is expected to resume once Chairman Wontumi’s condition improves.
“We haven’t finished with the interrogation, so we will come back to continue hopefully on Wednesday if his condition improves”.
Meanwhile, a writ of summons from Exim Bank has been filed against Chairman Wontumi.
His legal team has indicated that they are preparing a defense.
“We are going to respond to the pleadings tomorrow. I am very hopeful that we will be able to mount a defense of the writ”.
