Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, has been granted bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after his arrest at the CID headquarters.
This was confirmed by his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, in an interview on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
He revealed that although bail was granted late Tuesday night, the legal team was unable to fulfil the bail conditions in time, leaving his client in custody overnight.
Mr. Appiah-Kubi revealed that Chairman Wontumi took ill during EOCO’s interrogation and is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital, under EOCO’s supervision.
He dismissed reports suggesting that his client was mishandled by EOCO officers, praising the agency for the professionalism it exhibited throughout the process.
