You didn’t end Dumsor – Minority to Ofori-Atta

The NDC Minority in Parliament has challenged the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s claim that the Akufo- Addo government ended the erratic power crisis popularly known as ‘dumsor’.
According to the Minority, this assertion is dishonest, to say the least, adding that the governing New Patriotic Party (NDC) cannot take credit where it didn’t labour.
Ghana in about the past four years experienced load shedding which had a major effect on the economy and crippled businesses. There were job losses and a decline in the economic growth targets.
Presenting the 2018 Budget and Economic Policy Statement in Parliament, Wednesday, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta said“When I presented the budget in March, I indicated our commitment to take strategic steps to fix the challenges facing the economy and restore hope to Ghanaians.
“I’m happy to note that we have turned the economy around. We have achieved in one year, what seemed impossible to achieve in eight years.
“Our SHS students have literally forgotten how to spell dumsor. Dumsor is dead.
“We’ll like to assure Ghanaians that the government of President Nana Akufo Addo is a government which delivers on its promises, we promised to end dumsor and we’ve done that,” Hon. Ken Ofori Atta noted.
But the NDC Minority has taken strong exception to the Minister’s claims saying the NPP government had no hand in putting to an end the power crisis.
Former Deputy Power Minister and Minority Spokesperson on Energy, John Jinapor challenged Hon. Ken Ofori Atta to tell Ghanaians what the government did to end the crisis.
“That’s a very bad comment and is in bad faith, dumsor ended as far back as January 2016 and you can check from GRIDCo, these are fact and not opinions. What did the Minister do to end dumsor? let him tell us. Did he add a single generating capacity, did he add additional financing? rather the levy that we instituted that you claim were obnoxious and indicated that you’ll scrap, you’ve not done that and so the Minister is being just economical with the truth.”
