After going three games without a victory, Hearts of Oak put up a spirited performance to earn their first win of the season against though customers Wa All Stars.
Hearts of Oak defeated the Champions 2:1 in a dramatic fashion at the Accra Sports Stadium. Alexandre Kouassi opened the scoring for the Phobians in the 35th minute and they held on till seven minutes from time before Richard Arthur.
But Thomas Abbey gave Hearts their first win of the season when he grabbed the match winner just two minutes after All Stars’ equaliser. The match was All Stars’ first game of the season due to their CAF Inter-club competition.
In Sogakope on Saturday, leaders Aduana Stars were held to a 1:1 draw by WAFA. Aduana opened the scoring through Sam Adams and WAFA equalised right at the start of the second half through Richard Lamptey.
Liberty Professionals defeated Medeama 3:2 in an entertaining five-goal thriller in Dansoman. Bernard Arthur opened the scoring in the 5th minute but Justice Blay cancelled it out for Medeama in the 31st minute. Bernard Arthur scored again in the 73rd minute and Medeama again equalised, just four minutes later. However, Samuel Sarfo grabbed the winner for Liberty Professionals in the 80th minute.
Inter Allies were 2:1 winners over Ebusua Dwarfs at the El Wak Stadium. Inter Allies took a commanding 2:0 first half lead with goals from Antwi Kwame Amoako and Samuel Konney. Nicholas Gyan pulled one back for Ebusua Dwarfs in the 54th minute.
In Bechem, Bechem United and Berekum Chelsea drew 1:1 in the Brong Ahafo derby. Seth Appiah fired Chelsea into the lead in the 28th minute and Abubakar Haji equalised in the 52nd minute.
Elmina Sharks won their first match of their season with a 1:0 win over Tema Youth in Elmina. With the match heading for a draw, Isaac Mensah scored a dramatic late goal in the 90th minute to hand Sharks the win, which would also go down as their first ever win in the Ghana Premier League.
Fellow Premier League debutants Bolga All Stars also won their first ever Premier League match, defeating Great Olympics 1:0 in Tamale. Samuel Norgbey scored the important goal through the spot in the 50th minute.
Meanwhile the match between Ashantigold and Asante Kotoko has been rescheduled for today after it was rained off yesterday.
