160 stranded Ghanaians arrive from Libya today

A number of one hundred and sixty stranded Ghanaians will arrive from Libya today as part of the measures by the government to ensure Ghanaians in the war-torn country are safe.
According to a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; out of the total number of evacuees, eight are women and four are children.
Mr. Charles Owiredu made this announcement on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show hosted by Kwame Afrifa-Mensdah on Accra-based Happy FM.
He says the Ministry is expecting their arrival from the war-torn country today adding that the National Security apparatus, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the Ministry of Health have been alerted are on standby pending their arrival at the Kotoka International Airport.
He gave the assurance that the exercise is ongoing till all Ghanaians who find themselves in the unfortunate situation in Libya are evacuated.
He denied Ghanaians being held in bondage in the country explaining that the sale humans in Libya is an underground practice not widespread as has been publicized by Cable News Network.
He said the Ministry was able to arrive at the decision to evacuate the stranded Ghanaians from Libya after a team was dispatched to study the situation in the country.
He explained that because of the volatile situation in that country a lot of the embassies which hitherto operate from Tripoli have all left Tripoli citing insecurity as the main cause.
As it stand now Libya is being ruled by three groups the namely the militia,forces backed by African Union among others in the North African country.
