At least 177 stranded Ghanaians with residence in Germany were on Monday, June 8, 2020, airlifted from Ghana’s capital, Accra to the European country.

The Ghanaians were left stranded in the West African country for the past three months due to COVID-19.

Ghana closed its borders – air, land, and sea – to minimize the spread and importation of the coronavirus, which was first imported into the country in mid-March 2020.

The arrangement to evacuate the Ghanaians resident in Germany was done at the behest of the German Embassy in Accra. The ambassador Christoph Retzlaff expressed his delight at the smooth operation at the Kotoka International Airport.

The aircraft arrived in Accra from Riga International Airport in Latvia. Travelers were subjected to strict baggage standards of one check-in baggage of not more than 24kg and one carry-on bag not exceeding 5kg.

The cost per head is 750 Euros, which is one of the cheapest of the evacuation flights. The flight is scheduled to arrive at Algiers International Airport at 3:45pm, then depart at 4:30 pm to arrive in Dusseldorf at 7:15 pm.
