2020 Election Petition: Supreme Court sets March 4 as judgement day

Burden of proof lies on NDC no2020 Election Petition: Supreme Court sets March 4 as judgement dayw but they can make it an EC problem – Lawyer

The Supreme Court has set March 4, 2021, to give its ruling of the ongoing 2020 election petition hearing filed by the NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.

Chief Justice Anin Yeboah made this known after proceedings on Monday. “The petition is adjourned to March 4, 2021, for judgement.”

Mahama is challenging the 2020 presidential results delivered by the chairperson of the Electoral Commission Jean Mensa.

After several days of failing to convince the court to have his case reopened, Mahama, through his legal team was given permission by the Supreme Court to file his closing address.

“We are of the opinion that the petitioner should be granted leave to file his closing address on or before Tuesday, February 23, 2021,” the seven-member court ruled.

He maintains that neither he nor President Akufo-Addo attained a clear majority during the polls because of the omission of the Techiman South constituency from the declaration of results.

According to the EC, President Akufo-Addo garnered 51.59 percent of the votes while Mr. Mahama got 47.37 percent.

Mr Mahama is now asking the Supreme Court to order a re-run of the presidential election for him and the incumbent.
