The Black Stars of Ghana find themselves in a difficult position after a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Sudan in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

With just one point from their first three matches, Ghana faces a must-win scenario in the return leg on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

GFA spokesperson Henry Asante Twum in an interview on Happy Sports underlined the urgency of the situation, stressing that the team must fight for victory to keep their qualification hopes alive. “There are no minnows in football right now. The teams everyone thought we could beat easily back in the days have now really improved,” he said. “The boys know that we have to go for the maximum three points against Sudan, and the only way we can do that is by fighting.”

Ghana, led by captain Kudus Mohammed, dominated possession in the goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium but failed to convert their chances last Thursday.

Sudan’s solid defensive performance keeps them second in Group F, while Ghana languishes at the bottom with just one point from three games.Angola defeated Niger 2-0 meaning they also have 9points out of 9.

The Black Stars have landed Libya for the return fixture, set to take place at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi.

Ghana must deliver a better performance to avoid missing out on AFCON qualification, as another poor result would leave their hopes hanging by a thread.
