2026 Glasgow: Ghana Men’s 4x100m Relay Team have booked their place in the Commonwealth Games Final

Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team finished fourth at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after a dramatic post-race decision at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday (1 August).

It would have been Ghana’s first Commonwealth Games podium finish in the event since 1974.

The Ghanaian quartet crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 38.13 seconds, around 0.34 seconds off the national record of 37.79 seconds set at last year’s World Championships in Tokyo.

Ghana had initially finished fourth behind Canada, Nigeria and Australia. They were then promoted to third after Canada was disqualified for a lane violation.

However, Canada protested the decision and the protest was upheld. That reinstated Canada to second place and moved Nigeria to third. Ghana therefore dropped back to fourth.

Despite missing out on a medal, the performance is another significant achievement for Ghana’s sprint relay programme, underlining its consistency on the international stage. Coming within touching distance of the national record also points to the squad’s growing strength ahead of future global competitions.

The result leaves Ghana’s tally at one medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, following Zinabu Issah’s silver in the women’s Para shot put earlier in the Games.
