Ghana’s Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Isaac Asiamah has indicated the country’s readiness to host any CAF organized competition if given the chance.
Kenya has been stripped off the right to host the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) following a Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee meeting in Accra which has generated a lot of interest from Ghanaians after a successful hosting of the WAFU Cup of Nations especially when the country couldn’t make it to tournament after being knocked out at qualification stage.
“Ghana is already hosting CAF Africa Women Championship in 2018. We just got the information that, CAF have stripped off the CHAN hosting right from Kenya due to some reasons. As a country Ghana we are ready to Host any CAF organized tournament. We did well in hosting the WAFU tournament without any bad report, the The Fox Sports people were happy about the whole organization including the infrastructures we used . Almost Cape Coast alone had been able to host the WAFU.  We have Tamale Sports Stadium, Kumasi Sports Stadium and the renovation of Accra Sports Stadium will start this year so Ghana stands at any point in time to host CAF tournament “. Hon. Asiamah said.
The decision was announced at a media conference after a one-day meeting headed by CAF’s president Ahmad Ahmad.
CAF says the decision was made “in light of accumulated delays from reports of the various inspection missions conducted in the country.”
A CAF inspection team visited Kenya from 11 to 17 September 2017 and found that only one of the four venues was ready to stage the event.
The 16-team tournament for locally-based players only, is scheduled to take place between 12 January and 4 February 2018.
