The head coach of First State FC, Abdul Faisal Chibsah, says the Ghana Football Association should focus much on building the capacity of coaches to ensure progress in our youth football development.

Ghana once a powerhouse at the youth level have failed to qualify for any major tournament since 2005.

The Black Starlets were recently kicked out of the WAFU U17 Cup of Nations in the group stage after losing to Ivory Coast 3-1.

Faisal Chibsah also a youth development coach said Ghana must find a pattern of play or philosophy in our game which should run through the various youth levels.

Speaking in an interview on Happy Sports with Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on the recent failures chalked by the national U17 side and the way forward, he said, “We need to put structures in place to prepare for Juvenile football. We also need to strengthen our coach’s department. It is the starting point for us. We have missed out on ways of playing the game for almost five years nows”.

“We need to develop players and at least camp them for three years before we can compete. The current process of player’s selection and recruitment is not helping us. We have to regroup and find the best ways and procedure.

“We must give ourselves time and also have an identity or philosophy on how we want to play them develop”, he indicated.

He added that the current procedure and system in the selection of players to the national U17 team must be changed since it has not been effective over the years.
