Dr. Osei Owusu Bonsu, a political analyst has divulged that the roles and obligations of Members of Parliament in Ghana have been misinterpreted by not only the ordinary Ghanaian but also the Parliamentarians themselves.

He explained either Parliamentarians are aware of their roles and obligations or they tend to lure the members of their constituents to gain political power.

During an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he shared, “With regards to the current happenings in the country, it seems we as well as the MPs themselves hardly understand the role they play in their contribution to the nation’s development. Looking at their previous election campaign and the promises they give to their constituents, it shows they barely understand their duties as MPs. Eventually, they tend to complain about problems from their subjects, forgetting they are the root cause of those problems.

Practically, with the current troubles of the Madina constituency. Hon Sosu called that upon himself when he promised to fix the roads in his constituency within 100 days. After realizing that isn’t his position, he championed the demonstration that led to all this brouhaha.”

He again argued that, the Speaker of Parliament’s advocate for the construction of new office complex in the constituency of every MP should not be the focus.

Although Mr. Owusu Bonsu agreed it was a good initiative, he however believes the priority of parliamentarians should not be about building new office spaces, considering the state of the country’s economy.
