Former Black Stars coach, Charles Kwabla Akonnor has advised young footballers to take up the opportunity of playing for the Black Stars

Akonnor made this statement on the back of Felix Afena Gyan’s decision to reject a call up to the Black Stars ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The AS Roma youngster has turned down two invitations to represent the senior national football team.

According to the former Hearts of Oak coach, playing for the national team is an honor, and people called up should be ready to accept the invite.

“It depends on what the boy has in mind and what he wants to achieve. But in all fairness, if you get the chance to play for the national team you need to take it in good faith”, he told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports show.

“I don’t think he is looking forward to playing for Italy”.

Akonnor added that he will be supporting the Black Stars at the tournament but could not state whether the team can win lift the title.

“I will be supporting Ghana. None of us can tell where the team will reach”

“It was a necessary friendly match ahead of the Morocco game. By now the technical team and management know what to do. I am hopeful by the time we play against Morocco things will get better ”, he added.
